Please read the entire guidelines below before submitting your work. We accept submissions through February 5, 2019.
Please submit only one work of fiction, one work of nonfiction, one single-act drama, three works of flash fiction, or up to seven poems at a time (10 page limit). Currently, we are not accepting translations, but we are very interested in art and photography.
We ask that you please wait until you hear back from us before submitting new work for consideration. We shall do our best to respond within one month but, in some cases, this period may be longer. If you have not received a response from us within ninety days, we will be happy to respond to your e-mail inquiries.
What the Thunder Said does accept simultaneous submissions. In the event that the work is accepted for publication elsewhere, please do us the courtesy of informing us promptly.
Only previously unpublished works will be considered for publication.
All written work must be submitted as a Word document (doc. or docx.). When submitting, please fill out the Cover Letter portion directly with your name, title(s) of your work, and a brief bio including any publication history you might have. Please do NOT include any identifying information on your uploaded document. Any personal identifying information on the document itself may disqualify your work from publication. Only the Cover Letter section should have the author’s name, genre (Fiction, Non-fiction, Drama, Translation, Poetry), and bio.
All photographs or works of art must be submitted as a jpg. gif. tiff. or png. file.
Manuscripts transmitted via fax or physically to either a teacher or any member of the Literary Magazine or Creative Writing clubs will not be accepted for consideration.
You must be a current Desert Vista High School student in order to be published in What the Thunder Said. Thank you for your submission!
